Training & Education
To encourage both professional and personal growth for all its employees, Straub offers a wide range of internal training and development opportunities. All new employees attend an extensive corporate orientation including modules on Straub's mission, employee benefits, safety and security, infection control, employee relations, patient relations/service, information management and employee assistance programs. Individual divisions and departments continue the new employee training process with their own department specific orientations.
Straub requires all employees to continuously improve their skills. Straub's curriculum is comprised of the Service, Leadership and Competence Assessment Curricula.
The Straub Service Curriculum focuses on developing and enhancing skills such as customer service, communication, teamwork, problem solving, workplace violence, workforce diversity, and dealing with harassment classes.
The Straub Leadership Curriculum for managers focuses on effective management, dealing with troubled employees, process improvement tools, change management, managing multiple priorities, consensus decision making, human resources education topics such as performance management, worker's compensation, employment process, and compensation issues.
The Competence Assessment curriculum focuses on patient care, patient safety, advance directives, organ & tissue donations, patient confidentiality, medical and legal documentation, age-specific training, patient rights & responsibilities and basic life support CPR classes.
Annual Safety training teaches prevention of accidents, safety awareness, and wellness, including, fire safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, radiation safety, hazard communication, medical device and electrical safety.
Annual Corporate Compliance training deals with the importance of proper coding, documentation of patient records and proper billing.
As an American Heart Association community training center for CPR Healthcare Provider Course and Heartsaver AED Course as well as Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Straub also offers personal growth courses such as financial and estate planning series, parenting classes, as well as personal computer classes for those required to use it in their jobs.
For those employees attending schools and working towards an under-graduate degree relevant to their position, Straub offers tuition reimbursement. In some circumstances, a one time bonus is given to the employee upon certification.
Student internships in the nursing field are available in cooperation with some local Hawai‘i universities.
