Hospital Services/Hospitalist

Straub is the first in Hawaii to provide the services of in-house Hospital Physicians - qualified doctors who are on duty 24 hours a day to oversee the care of hospital patients.

The new program allows the Straub Hospitalist physicians to serve as an extension of other physicians' practice and help provide medical care.

An extension of your practice

Running a physician practice is more than a full-time job. A physician must be a clinician and a business manager overseeing billing, personnel matters, compliance issues and more. Straub's Hospitalist program can provide welcome relief for independent physicians with growing or mature practices. Our team of hospitalists can serve as an extension of your practice by temporarily assuming the care of a patient requiring a hospital stay. This allows you to focus on your outpatient practice and prevent delays and interruptions in your daily office schedule.

For your patients and their families, it means there is a physician on-site at the hospital around the clock to address their questions and concerns. In addition, since the hospitalist is in the facility around the clock, when test results are received, the hospitalist can explain the results to the patient and move the plan of care forward without delay.

You are welcome to make courtesy calls to your patients at any time and are relieved of daily hospital rounds, regaining what could amount to several hours a week. Upon discharge, you resume care of your patient and will receive a complete report from the attending hospitalist to transition care smoothly to the outpatient setting.

What you can expect from Straub Hospitalists:

  • A dedicated and experienced hospitalist team to serve as an extension of your practice. Straub hospitalists can provide coverage for all your inpatients or just when it is necessary. This can be especially helpful when you are traveling or on vacation.
  • Straub hospitalists can serve as both the admitting and attending physician while your patient is in the hospital, so all you need to do is make one phone call.
  • 24-hour access to our hospitalist team (see back) for admission of a patient or to discuss patient status.
  • Excellent communication from the point of admission to discharge. The hospitalist will communicate the patient plan of care, provide patient status whenever you request and provide a complete report upon discharge.
