When to Visit Your Pediatrician

Not counting visits to the doctor when your child is ill, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends regular health care visits according to the following time line:

  • Before your newborn baby is discharged from the hospital.
  • Before two full days of life. Within 48 to 72 hours following discharge.
  • Within the first two to four weeks of age, then at two, four, six, nine and 12 months of age.
  • In the baby's second year, at 15, 18 and 24 months of age. - -Yearly visits through age six.
  • Visits at six, eight and ten years of age. And each year thereafter as needed to age eighteen.
